John “Johno” Saunders was first up
for the eclipse crew, both fighters
came out strong throwing multiple
combinations both landing some,
Johno clinched and went for the
takedown almost getting himself
caught in a guillotine, his opponent
reversed Johno’s takedown attempt
landing in side control, Johno
stayed active getting his guard back
straight away after a short scramble
the fight came back to the feet
where his opponent stood up leaving
his neck exposed for Johno to sink
in the Guillotine, showing great
composure under pressure Johno
jumped strait to guard to finish the
choke! A hard fight & a well
deserved win in the first round!
Second fight for the Eclipse crew
was Aaron “Butch” Fraser. And these
heavy weights meant business, both
fighters came out all guns blazing
Butch landing the more accurate and
damaging blows knocking his
opponents headgear off causing the
fight to be put into time out, after
his headgear was replaced it was
more of the same both fighters
throwing massive leather until once
again Butch’s opponents headgear
came off (lucky for him, if the
fight was let go it would have been
his head) after the 2nd
re-start the fight took a slight
turn with the fighters composing
themselves and taking on a new game
plan, butch shot in for a takedown &
unfortunately got caught in a
guillotine! But that’s mma!
Both fighters (Johno & Butch)
learned some lessons and gained
valuable experience & are keen to
fight again soon! Good work guys!
Chris “Checkers”
Shannon fought on
Saturday night,
April the 5th
, he took the
fight at 4 days
notice coming back
from an injured
foot, Checkers
fought Kris Kent
from OMAC in
Bunbury, it was C
class shooto rules
(2x3min rounds) but
both fighters agreed
they did not want to
wear head gear or
shin guards, The
fighters came out in
the first throwing
some serious
combinations, both
landing some
Checkers forcing his
opponent to the
ropes & attempting
some judo style
takedowns
unsuccessfully, They
were separated by
the ref Dean
Williams, when they
came back together,
they exchanged
punches & kicks
before clinching.
Kris caught Checkers
with a knee to the
mid section knocking
the wind out of him
and seriously
slowing him down for
the remainder of the
fight. In the next
exchange both
fighters took turns
in rocking each
other Checkers being
dropped to his knees
at one instance, He
fought back.
Determined to take
the fight to the
ground Checkers
continually
clinching and going
for the single or
double leg takedown,
Kent though defended
them well sprawling
at every chance then
standing back up,
knowing he was going
to be out classed on
the ground, the
fight went the
distance Kris Kent
getting a unanimous
decision! A Stirling
effort from Checkers
all the same taking
the fight on short
notice and going the
distance pushing the
pace the whole
fight! Well done
mate!
